This Month in Dragons May 2021

Hello and welcome to our third edition of This Month in Dragons! We are very excited to share all sorts of news with you all! There are many new things to share and old things to discuss, so let's dive in.

What's New?

As stated in March's edition, The latest Wings of Fire book comes out this month! This one is the Forge Your Dragon World: Wings of Fire Creative Guide (Wings of Fire Graphix) and will be released on May fourth. The back of the book describes it as:

"Write your legend, draw your destiny, and take flight!

The legend starts with you! Do you love to draw or write? Do you have your very own dragon stories to tell? In this official Wings of Fire journal, you'll design awesome characters, imagine new adventures, and forge YOUR fantasy world! With examples from Wings of Fire graphic artist Mike Holmes, Tui T. Sutherland guides you through the #1 New York Times bestselling Wings of Fire series in a more interactive and exciting way than ever before. Spread your wings with your very own graphic story creation!" Very exciting! We have pre ordered our copy, how about you? Now into the realm of television. Initially released in February in China, New Gods: Nezha Reborn is an Asian animated film directed by Zhao Ji. Netflix gives the brief description which says:

"While living as an ordinary deliveryman and motor racing fan, Nezha encounters old nemeses and must rediscover his powers as a Chinese deity to protect his loved ones."

The Chinese description details:

"Three thousand years after Nezha fought the sea, Li Yunxiang, a young motorbike rider in Donghai City, discovers that he is Nezha reincarnated. Before he has mastered his powers, his old enemies appear, and he must settle a 3,000-year-old grudge with the Dragon Clan."

While not focused on dragons necessarily, there is at least one dragon featured in the film as seen on some of the posters. We'll watch it and get back to you all soon with a review!

What Came Before?

May is a busy month! Tui T. Sutherland published The Hidden Kingdom on the 28th of May in 2013. Anne McCaffery published Dragonquest in May 1971. The first Dragonheart came out to theaters on the 31st of May in 1996! Naomi Novik published Black Powder War on the 30th of May in 2006. We will keep our eyes out for more to share, and hopefully will bring more to you all next year!
