Hey guys! The museum is bringing something new to you all. It's called "This Month in Dragons" and we will review everything new related to dragons! This will consist mainly of books, movies, tv shows and so on. So let's dive in!
What's new?
Tui T. Sutherland released her new book in the Wings of Fire series! It's book fourteen, titled The Dangerous Gift and follows Queen Snowfall, having recently been crowned, dealing with the fleeing dragons of the tribes of Pantala. The summary is as follows:
"Snowfall didn't expect to be queen of the IceWings at such a young age, but now that she is, she's going to be the best queen ever. All she has to do is keep her tribe within IceWing territory, where it's safe while keeping every other tribe out, where they belong. It's a perfect and simple plan, backed up by all the IceWing magic Snowfall can find. That is, until a storm of unidentified dragons arrives on her shore, looking for asylum. The foreigners are completely strange and, Snowfall is certain, utterly untrustworthy. But as she escorts the miserable new tribes out of her kingdom, Snowfall is forced to reconsider her plan. Maybe she can only keep her tribe safe... if she's willing to risk everything."
How interesting! Tui has also announced the release of Forge Your Dragon World: Wings of Fire Creative Guide (Wings of Fire Graphix), and is planned to release on May Fourth. It is a book to encourage young readers to write and draw their own story inspired by the Wings of Fire series. The summary describes it as:
"Write your legend, draw your destiny, and take flight!
The legend starts with you!Do you love to draw or write? Do you have your very own dragon stories to tell? In this official Wings of Fire journal, you'll design awesome characters, imagine new adventures, and forge YOUR fantasy world! With examples from Wings of Fire graphic artist Mike Holmes, Tui T. Sutherland guides you through the #1 New York Times bestselling Wings of Fire series in a more interactive and exciting way than ever before.Spread your wings with your very own graphic story creation!"
How fun! Following up we have a new movie by Disney itself! Previously scheduled to have been released in 2020, their new movie Raya and The Last Dragon was unfortunately delayed due to the recent pandemic. However, it came out in participating theaters and on their streaming service this month on the fourth, gaining a 7.6/10 on IMDb, a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 75% on Metacritic. The movie is described as:
"Long ago, in the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. However, when sinister monsters known as the Druun threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, those same monsters have returned, and it's up to a lone warrior to track down the last dragon and stop the Druun for good."
The movie features several dragons throughout, with the most important being Sisu, the last surviving dragon. I personally felt like some parts were cut short, almost definitely because of time constraints. If they had split the movie into two or three parts, I feel it would have greatly benefited from that. It has a large and unique world that feels alive, and would have been truly spectacular with more time. The animation is fantastic and the characters are a joy to watch. I would highly recommend watching it.
What Came Before?
Many great things have happened in March! The first book of the Temeraire series was release on March 28th in 2006, with the seventh novel released on March 6th 2012. The first of the How to Train Your Dragon movies came out on March 26th 2010. Many other great dragons came in the month of march, such as a number of the Dragonriders of Pern series. Those being Dragonsong, Dragondrums, and Nerilka's Story. March also features the holiday of Saint Patrick, and many artists have done dragon art based around the holiday.
That's all for now, I hope you all have enjoyed what we had to share! Let us know what you think below.
